So, if this is one of the first to flower in cultivation, what would be the process of getting pictures and / or herbarium samples to the people who decide what is what in the plant world? It would be nice not to have to refer to this as "big red" forever. With all due respect to Mardy, of course.

Whoa

I thought Big Red was a kind of “chaw.”

So nice to see it’s something so magnificent.

Good Job Ron - looks like a winner for SoCal. I hope mine gets that great red color. Now it is mostly black as well.

Mine is actually almost black when wet! As it has gotten bigger it has turn more red! I remember the habitat picture it was almost black as well! Somewhat ironic that it is flowering with the passing of Alfred a couple of months ago!

In Hilo, Hawaii, leptos (teddy bears) are used frequently for commercial landscaping. They flower and produce seed. That's where I got the seed for mine, which are now flowering, but no seed yet.

Nice Ron. I think the setting seed says a lot about this palm being different from Lepto. Your sets seed pretty early, yet with the hundreds of Leptos growing in Cali, who has got seed off one of those.

By the way ron, Christmas is coming, maybe time to get off the iphone3?
