I certainly plan on coming up. I have been to Ron's garden before, and reccomend it as a well worth garden to visit. I plan on coming with maybe 4 other palm kooks like myself :D , and some really cool palms for the donation and for sale. Oh.....maybe some baked beans for lunch! :D  Hope to see a great turnout.

Turnout is usually pretty good (40-50 individuals is not unusual).  The garden tour of the day is ALWAYS followed by a plant sale and auction.  Sale prices are often dirt cheap for some "rare" palms.

Like a third grade field trip to the park, lol :D But, you do have a good point. Maybe you can send a pm to one of the board members in advance. Kind of like when you attend a biennial! I think it's a good idea too.

Ray,

I think my friend Betty Ahlborn (current president of the Palm Beach chapter) and I will be making the trip with a few plants and food.  We are always looking for new gardens to visit and a chance to spend money on a new palm or any other plant we just have to have!

I like the idea of name tags for us addicts.  Maybe we can put our forum name on it as well.  Will be great to meet some of the folks from this board.

Yea......who's bringing the bake beans? :P  No, I really don't care about that right now, I'm starting to get a list together of what I'm bringing. Dypsis onilahensis, D. albofarinosa, D. saintelucei, Chamaedorea fragrans, among others will be making the ride north. :D

The mandatory 5 day away questions:

If I manage to escape the odds and arrange to go to the event, this will be my first of the kind. I am very anxious/excited and looking forward to it. But I have a few questions and if somebody can promptly reply I would appreciate it since I'm getting the lady involved as well and she has to make arrangements  :)

I am not a member -yet- of any society. Do I have to be a member prior to attending or can I become a member the day of the event?

What membership should I need, CFPACS, IPS, both, etc? Does my wife need to be a member as well to attend?

What should I bring, besides any trading material? Food? Pizza for everybody?

Any other -I-won't-regret-it-later- kind of thing must I not forget?

Ok too many questions.

Frank,

You are more than welcome to come, and by all means, bring the little lady. If you want to join the chapter while there, I'm sure they will have some sort of application for new members. Also, you might want to consider joining the IPS. You can join as a single person or as a family membership.

As far as food and plants, they ask if you can, bring some sort of side dish or dessert to go with the chicken, and they will have cold drinks provided. If you have a plant to donate for the auction, that also would be greatly appreciated. Please try to attend, there will be quite a few people and some of which are members of this forum. And after the auction, there will be a small sale set up to buy plants. Hope to see you there.

If I forgot to mention anything, maybe someone else can add to this.

I thought I would throw a few pictures of Ron Eward's Garden up for those that plan on going to the tour this Saturday. I was up there a few weeks ago, and look forward to coming back. Here's Ron himself, for those who have not yet had a chance to meet him.

All,

Betty and I are ready to go tomorrow.  We are trying to decide what palms to bring.  Should we bring just palms that will grow there or should we bring palms you all will lust after?

We will also be bringing some food for our contribution.

Is the garden tour guided or on your own?

Sitting here in my lil house, listening to the thunder, and looking out at my empty driveway........

My car pooped out last night.  Dunno what's wrong, but I'm sure the mechanic will let me know.  Now I wonder if I can make it  this weekend :(

In the off-chance they get it fixed today, do I need to bring a palm/plant to share?  I'm not sure I have one that would interest anyone.
