Honolulu cool October temps

I posted this in another weather thread some weeks back:

"Regarding Hawaii's recent temps, I checked nearby Wunderground stations and other NWS stations close to HNL where I think the main NWS station is located, and none of them showed lows below the 70sF on 24 Oct, when the airport was in the 50s supposedly.  To add to the weirdness, Kaneohe observations (windward Oahu) went from 72 at 1:57 a.m. to 55 at 2:57 a.m. and back up to 75 at 3:57.  Seems like a short time for such wild swings.  I emailed NWS Honolulu to get their take.  Last time I noticed a local temp anomaly and contacted them, they told me I was correct and their equip had malfunctioned."

I emailed Honolulu NWS about the outlier cold temperatures and they advised me that a bad sensor was responsible for incorrect readings at the official NWS station.  Regarding Kaneohe, NWS noted that they don't maintain that recording station but surmised that heavy rain assoc with the cold front passing thru at the time might have messed with that sensor.

It was delightful to get a swift and detailed reply from NWS;  so my thought is that if you ever see weather data that doesn't make sense, NWS is -- at least here in HI -- open to conversation with you about it.  Nice!

Oh, and just for the record, November has been friggin cold here in east Hawaii.  I know there is precious little more nauseating than someone from Hawaii complaining about cold, but we have had almost 2 weeks of nightime lows in the low 60s and daytime highs barely hitting mid 70s.  I'm at 650' elevation which is cooler than NWS Hilo.  I am officially OVER winter!
