anyone else a fan of bluegrass?  I play bass and dobro and my favorite artists include Flatt and Scruggs, the Stanley brothers, ricky skaggs, Michael Cleveland (blind fiddler) and the earls of leceister.

Love it. Also love all old time string music from the Appalachians. As I grew up in VA, I have special love for the original Carter Family, Stanley Brothers, Doc Boggs and other VA musicians. My brother lives in NC, plays guitar and banjo and focuses on NC groups. I also love Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass. I have no use for modern country pop. Old time music can be dark but you have to realize their lives and times and that much of that music descended from British, Irish and Scottish folk music. Maybe it's an acquired taste but it certainly speaks to me.

Not something I generally seek out, but I can listen to it when I'm around it.  Last time was at the old post office, museum, etc. in El Jobean near Port Charlotte.

I have been known to fiddle around a bit (with a violin, that is). All the hits from 1865, 1930s and 40s, and have "grassified" a few things from the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and others. Most recently attended a concert of David Rawlings and Gillian Welch on their Harrow and the Harvest tour. It can get dreary and dark in Americana music, so it's not an exclusive interest.  I can find something I like in nearly every kind of music.

Never a fan until I heard Clarence White of the Byrds was considered one of bluegrass music's premier pickers. Watch the live version of the Byrds 'So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star' and note Mr. White's zombie-like playing. That's what led me into bluegrass.

I too am a fan of all types of music. The band at the bottom of my page, The Avett Brothers, is what I will call and Alt-Bluegrass band because no one knows where to pigeon-hole them since one of the brothers plays a banjo.

Take a listen

The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

That doesn't happen there / So when you run make sure you run / To something and not away from

Cause lies don't need an aero plane / To chase you anywhere
