10:00am – 11:00am – Presentation by Eric Schmidt of Leu Gardens

on the best palms for central Florida and the successes and failures of various palms and cycads in the Leu collection.

11:00am – Tour of the palm and cycad collection with Eric.

Please bring your lunch as we will eat in the garden.

2:00pm –2:15pm – Membership Meeting

2:15pm – 3:00pm – Plant auction

CFPACS will pay the cost of entry to Leu Gardens for all current members.  

Guests can pay the CFPACS the group rate.  

Those with reciprocal garden memberships are always FREE at Leu Gardens!

 

About the Garden:

Harry P. Leu Gardens is a 50 acre botanical garden just minutes from downtown Orlando.  The gardens and historical home were donated to the City of Orlando in 1961 by Mr. Harry P. Leu and his wife, Mary Jane. The Palm collection contains nearly 400 species of cold hardy and semi-tender palms suited for the Central Florida climate. This collection ranks among the most extensive collections in the United States. The Cycad collection displays over 50 species suitable for growing in Central Florida. Cycads are primitive plants that have existed for nearly 200 million years. They were the dominant plant life in the Cretaceous Period when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. They are palm-like in appearance, but have no relation to palms.

This will be a good garden tour for all the Central FL Palm growers.  Eric is full of information from his experimenting with different exotics.   Looking forward to Eric's talk and tour.
