Tomentum muncher ID

I have a flush happening on one of my Cycas thouarsii x cupda hybrids and noticed that something has been munching on the soft brown tomentum on the rachis of the leaves.  I haven't been able to see anything doing any damage, but when I check it in the morning it looks like a slug or snail has been working on it.  Funny thing is, I never see any snails or slugs in the area.  As you can see from the closeup, it doesn't seem to be doing damage to the new rachis, although there is a little bit of sappy material on the caudex right below the damage.  The leaves keep flushing, so I have basically been allowing things to progress without any intervention.  Anyone with any experience like this or seen this to know what is doing the damage?
