Growing point on caespitose palms

Has anyone the impression that the growing point in the individual stems of caespitose palms lies deeper inside than in same size trunks of solitary spp? Or, otherwise, has anyone observed, whether on or around the stump of a removed stem grow preferably new offshoots?
