This summer I decided because I have a lot to consider before I make a move to the western area of the US, I would bring to me now, what I consider one of my favorite parts of the warmer states. About 5-6 months ago I bought my first palm tree. About two weeks after, I bought a large pot for it and did my first ever re-potting. I should have potted it a bit lower, but it's sitting at the same elevation as it was before. I made a special mix with local sand found at lake Ontario mixed with a peat moss that supports good drainage as well. This summer alone it has already grown at least three or four new fronds which I find pretty amazing. Our summers get to a max right under 100 degrees and sit around 80-85 for a good portion of the summer. We've had many days into the mid 90's with humidity levels that are quite extreme. I'm getting it acclimated for going indoors at my parents house now. This summer I've been pretty content just sitting next to it and eating lunch in the sun on nice days. New York doesn't have to suck 100% all the time, but the palm tree is like taking a drug, it only covers up the problem.... :floor:
