Hey guys,

i got from ebay yesterday a heat pad for reptile ect... I put my washingtonia robusta seeds with paper towels in baggie bags. I placed them

directly on top of it but today i saw 1 seed sprouted but i noticed it was very very hot!

would it kill or burn my seeds?

What are you experiences with heated pad?

Hey Latinmtl67,

I don't know what the ideal germination temperature is for Washingtonia robusta seeds, but it likely should be warm rather than hot.

For my various Rhapis seeds, I read that they germinate best at 25°C, so I combined the heat pad with a thermostat to control the temperature. It keeps the heat pad turned off a lot of the time while still showing a temperature of around 25°C, so with the heat pad alone the temperature would likely be a lot higher.

The baggie method on the water heater in the basement has worked well for me, at least with Livistona seeds.  Not sure what the temp in the baggie was though.
