I have seen this before and am not very tempted to try. I think this stuff holds way too much water and isn't airy or draining at all. So for most palms not very suitable I think.

I have seen cut flowers in similar material at flower boutiques. They even colored the stuff to look nice in a transparent vase.

I will probably sacrifice a palm to see what happens. I'm doing the same with a Christmas palm seedling in only clay balls and so far it's been working out great.
