Scotts is great at one thing, killing whatever you grow.... I used Milorganite & add my own minors. Never had a problem.

I've seen several posts on how terrible Scott's miracle grow is lately. Does anyone have any thoughts on why some people dislike it so much? Just looking at the label it looks pretty balanced. I've used it some and although I didn't see huge results like the posts of Zeeth's coconut palm in this thread it didn't seem to hurt either.

Based on the review of Palmgain I just bought 20lb from HD.

I'm talking about their fertilizer. They have a class action suit against them for their lawn fertilizer killing lawns,  which they paid out big time for.

The granules are a little larger than Osmocote, but they were still small enough to easily slide underneath the rocky top dressings on my palms.

Thanks for the visual.

Kris.

I just started using this compound fertilizer that is sold by the Agricultural supply shop just on the otherside of my back fence. It is designed for all plants. The palm fertilizer I could buy from the local hardware shop is organic pelletized chicken manure mixed with blood and bone my dogs love to eat it.

I bought a small 10 lb bag of the PalmGain.  It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I opted for the small bag because over winter I plan to install a fertigation system.

So the application of PalmGain is for that final boost of growth before the colder weather hits and my hope that the palms will be better able to handle the cold.  Finger crossed.

Most of my palms are now growing faster than they have all year, especially my Washingtonias and my Majesty. I wish I would've used this at the start of the growing season but oh well, the growing season isn't over yet and there's always next year.

Len I finally got the Peters stuff from the local store. When I showed them the picture of the bag, they turned totally serious, looked at me and said that this is some really good stuff. Then they found a bag in the back that I was able to buy. They had an interesting response like it was some big secret or something.  :mrlooney:

Lucky you :)  I cant find that formula anymore.

Loved reading all the replies.  I lived in Oceanside, CA (coastal) and have 18 Kentia palms (18-23yrs old, 20’ high and one Huge phoenix reclinata that has turned into a 40’ x 40’ monster with 8 large trunks. I’ve mostly used 2 fertilizers SUPER PALM PLUS 14-4-9 and my current GRO-POWER (9-3-9) Palm and Tropical Plant Food.   A local palm arborist recommended the 9-3-9 many years ago.  Can anyone reply whether this or any FORMULATION is best if they all seem to have the proper micro nutrients?  I’ve had great success with both. I feed approx 3x/year.  I buy them for local wholesaler EWING or Site One. Thank you
