This one went in the ground earlier this year from a 15 gal pot after I got the stump ground from an ugly African Oil Palm (see thread on Least Favorite Palms); hard to get good pics with sun and other palms in the way.

I visited Floribunda Nursery yesterday and took some pics. I thought of this topic when we passed these palms. Here is D. carlsmithii. with MattyB for scale.

I guess they all don't get to be monsters. Mine is doing fine, just doesn't have the caliper...

It can't need more water--gets a ton of it, and it's super healthy--not a bad leaf.

Crazy how big this flower is, in comparison to the trunk height. Been feeding it bloom food, so that might be part of it. This

has the possibility to produce a huge amount of seed.

@Josh-O what’s the update on this palm? Do you have one at your vista garden?

Just doing my nightly palmtalk research and thinking I need a Carlsmithii now…

Haha haven’t made purchase yet. And just like you, I’m way past the asking for permission phase. Buy it, sneak it in next to the other potted plants, she never knows the difference.

That would be wrong and I’d never do that! :D

That’s exactly where I’m at.  Wife: “Did you buy more palms?” Me: “No, I just moved them around.”

I have 4 little D. carlsmithii’s in pots. I want to plant them but these ones are a little difficult for me. D. prestoniana is an easier big Dypsis grow, but I love the carlsmithii’s so eventually I will try one in the ground.

Second Carlsmithii bump. Here’s the new purchase. I’d like to see some updated California garden photos… if they are out there…
