@Pal Meir Since your in Europe and I in the US.  What is the difference in Seramis and Leca?  Are they both not clay products?

LECA is very hard like lava and chemically neutral, Seramis is soft like a laterite soil and slightly acidic. Both are made of loam, but at very different temps.

Seramis + Pine bark really does magic with palms. This lytocaryum was in a terminal decline before switching to this soil mix. New leaf looks flawless, and there is another forming.

Hello to everybody! I saw a Spanish Youtube-video where the guy is repotting a howea forsteriana without taking the palm out of its pot but just by putting the palm together with its plastic pot in a bigger plastic pot and new substrat around the old pot. The aim is to not destroy the sensitive roots. We all know that lytocaryum weddellianum palm trees are pretty famous to be roots sensitive, and I really have to repot mine, so that this way sounds pretty interesting to me. The roots of my lytocaryum weddellianum are already spreading out of the pot's holes so that I'm really scare to touch them. I actually should have repot it last year, but it's still very nice and doesn't spot growing. What do you think about this repotting technic? Thank you for advices!

Pal, how often do you water? What kind of water do you use?

I am using a slightly acidic spring water from Odenwald mountains (Buntsandstein over granite) near Heidelberg. (This soft water is also ideal for tea.) — My watering depends on the size of the pot, the season, and the growth rate of the palm.

The soil mix for small pots is 1/3 Seramis + 2/3 fine pine bark or 1/2 Seramis + 1/2 fine bark;

for bigger pots 1/4 LECA + 1/4 Seramis + 2/4 fine pine bark or 1/3 LECA + 1/3 Seramis + 1/3 fine pine bark:

PS

LECA is similar to basaltic lava foam (e.g. from Hawaii) which is lighter than water (but not pumice!).

@Pal Meir Hi. I have a problem with my lytocaryum. These are annual seedlings. Everything has been fine so far, but for some time everything has started to turn yellow. They are in suitable tiny containers, I water them from time to time. They are not in direct sunlight. Winter is approaching for me now, so I put polystyrene underneath the windowsill so that they would not get cold from the window sill, but some have some fungus (?). Please, advice me.

A photo of the seedlings would be helpful.

It seems that the soil (coir?) is too dry. Do your containers (glass?) have a draining hole? Maybe you have to repot the seedlings into small pots with draining holes so that you can water them without drowning them or keeping the soil too wet …

Good Lord these are gorgeous. Where can I find these in the US? I've been googling for hours and all I've come up with is some seedlings on eBay from a seller that's on vacation with a note that said they're sold out *sad emoji*

This one is my ceiling-scraper; it stood until today on the balcony, exposed to ±indirect sun, but also to many very heavy storms:

Lol you're just toying with my emotions.

Pal, your lytos are all gorgeous and it's absolutely your fault that I'm so fascinated with these palms.

@Pal Meir and @Kai and @Laaz are bad influences

I'm waiting on my clay to get here, so I found the fanciest decorative pots I had on hand. Is a 2 gallon pot too big to stick these in right now? They're in tiny band containers.

Both of mine are pushing out new leaves. Blows my mind because this potting mix is so well-draining that I could spit in it and hold my hand under the pot and get my hand wet in about 3 seconds. They seem happy though *shrugs*

In contrast to the ceiling-scraper, N°1303 is much smaller. It was always exposed to direct sun, wind and weather:

PS: This time the wine too is 8 years old.

PPS: The most elegant N°1302 seems to have not survived the milder frosts in this March … :crying:

Happy Birthday to Ceiling Scraper and 1303! I'm sorry to hear about 1302.

I hope my little guys become ceiling scrapers at some point. Your Weddellanium posts and potting mix recipes have definitely helped me become a better dad to my little green children, Pal.

The only-indoor-palm N°1304 became today also 8 yr old, but it has a totally different habit:

Where can one purchase a Syagrus Weddelliana?

I got mine as liners from Jungle Music. Pics are somewhere in this thread. They're tiny and expensive but I love them.

Thanks! You have been such a great help for me.

Mine are the 2 in the clay pots. I got them at the end-of-year sale for like $55 each. They're usually listed as Lytocaryum Weddellanium FYI. And if you follow Pal Meir's soil recipe you'll have to water almost daily.

I've seen Wekiva's listings here and there and they seem really expensive...... But a 3 gallon Lyto :w00: my tiny ones are growing respectably, but it'll be years before they get that big.

And, I'm at this sad point where I've got to start giving stuff away to make room. Maybe if one of these job offers/moves pans out, I'll reward myself lol

Just arrived today from Wekiva Foliage in FL!

A decent number the existing fronds were broken from being squeezed into a box but overall the palm appears very big and healthy, it should bounce back in no time :D

Here's the listing where I purchased it if anyone's interested: https://www.bonanza.com/listings/Wedding-Palm-Live-Plant-in-a-3-Gallon-Growers-Pot-Lytocaryum-Weddellianum-/1059074336?goog_pla=1
