Pal Meir 5,174 Report post Posted May 21, 2016 Acoelorraphe is a very very good choice and yours look really marvellous! — A. is also a most excellent indoor palm which can be kept in pots for many decades (if you don’t forget to give them daily lots of water ).

Josh-O 2,708 Report post Posted May 21, 2016 4 hours ago, Cindy Adair said: It looks great! Totally the opposite of what I have mostly done. You go to great lengths and work very hard to install gorgeous big palms. And like the newest Singapore Garden it shows! I take a serrated trowel and dig a tiny hole for tiny palms. And then wait. And wait. And wait. And plant more seeds in pots like I did yesterday. And wait some more. Congratulations! I'm on the same page as you with growing lots of palms from seed as well. I couldn't believe how some of these bigger palms just fell on my lap so I scooped up the opportunities quickly. Someday I will get to gardens by the bay Untill then I'll keep creating my slice of paradise

Kim 3,269 Report post Posted May 21, 2016 9 minutes ago, Josh-O said: Good Eye George. I'm not sure yer? Maybe that's for the 45 year-old Jubaea chilensis? Awesome work, Josh! Funny we don't see the A. wrightii in California much. In Florida they might be rolling their eyes at this, but they are not at all common here. I did not commit to a guess, because I was sure Bill S. was correct in his choice, though the size of the hole was inviting for a Jubaea, your list did not indicate a double-trunked specimen, thus the A. wrightii conclusion. But you still have room! And a big space for the almighty Jube! Go for it! Or maybe you have a few already, I haven't kept up with this thread... Next time Bo comes to San Diego, we are coming by for a tour.

What is it about banks and everglades palms? Protection from fleeing robbers? All kidding aside, that is a spectacular specimen of a palm that is due more recognition. Who'd have thought a FL native palm would be showcased in Josh's garden? I guessed Jubaea because I can't grow one and palm lovers in Cali speak of them with such reverence.
