Wow, what a collection, it will be interesting to see this in about 5 or 6 years. Is it me or is that Chamerops really fat! Nice home also.

No lawn here but up the back. The pepermint mulch has a very pungent odour to it.

Chamerops and windmill could be planted out in winter no problem.

Good luck Sol and Troy, you two are pioneers you realise, and I think Tassie is overall way cooler than San Francisco, basically Tasmania is bloody freezing, there I said it in good old Briz Vegas style. If that Euterpe survives I'll personally come down there and photograph it. I'm due for another Tassie visit, my second one.

Once again, a great thread and fab work Sol, looks like we wait about 8 months for Troy to kick off. Does that sound right Troy ?

Well I got some seeds from RPS early last year and I have a few small plants as a result so I thought I would see how it goes in the ground. I will post a photo tomorrow, tonight is the palms first night in the ground, might get some black pebbles to put around the base of it. I was thinking on cold nights I would put a bip plastic pot over it for protection

"Good luck Sol and Troy, you two are pioneers you realise"

That's what makes it so much fun Wal !  AS for being alot colder than san Francisco ( it was very foggy and around 16c  when i was there 7 yrs ago) Hobarts seaside suburbs rarely get below 0c . Where i will be moving too @ old Beach and where Sol is @ Blackmans Bay are very mild areas .it is the lack of + 16 c days in winter rather than the absolute coldest temperatures that limit what we can grow . For example last night it was 15 c and last week overnight it got to 4 c  its crazy down here !

Sol, your courtyard will fill in great! I was wondering how the surf in your backyard is ?

You mean surf as in waves? If so the biggest ones are at Pedra Branca

Your yard is looking great and will be nice and full in a few years. Are those heliconias pictured there, if so what kind? They look like Psitticorums, I have been experimenting with different ones here but have not had any come back after winter. Thanks for sharing the updates, and look forward to more at the end of your summer.
