Jubaea x parajubaea or parajubaea x jubaea

Recommended Posts

It has a lot of Parajub inside but looks more compact... as seedling the juvenile leaves never had been bifid like Pjc, it never was so slender/long as Parajubaea cocoides Seedling .. At the moment I would say it is the most cocoid palm I have. It is very fast, easy growing and likes the same conditions as jxs or bxp. I think there would be a lot of variation in the few plants that exist. I.e. I have two jxs... one is growing very upright and slender (sungrown) and the other one has droping leaves, very bushy. So I also expect this for pjc x jub plants. Maybe it is possible all owners will post a Photo to see differences.

Hello,

yes I gave it a bigger pot. The fifth pic you can see it. :-) Its rounded.

From April to October it is growing outside with about 6 to 8 hours of sun.

I will keep it potgrown I think for about the next two years... If it gets to big, i will put it in the ground and have to protect it in wintertime. This winter the lowest nighttemp was not extrem: -7C; 20F. But we have  a lot of these nights with this lowest temps. And this winter is very warm... Normaly we have minimum 14 days with nights down to -14C,7F and Daytemps not higher than -3C, 26F.

What I mentioned is if in Canada and the USA you have a very very extrem Winteroutbreak... in Europe it is very warm in winter the same time....

But it is worth to put it in the ground and take care and protect it every winter with extra heat. It looks very tropic, it will  take some cold and is very cocoid. It is the best Hybrid I do have.... although there are a lot of other very beautiful hybrids like Tprinc x Twag, JXS or for example the yxb.

Yes, should be interesting to see how this one develops!  I do need to get it in the ground yet this year; no concerns with hardiness obviously.  The question is where!  I am sooooo out of space and lacking for sun!

Ben, did you find a home for this guy yet?

Sort of.  Mostly sun, but shoe-horned in around a lemon tree and some kind of Brahea.  I'm getting to the phase now where I delete more than I add.  And, I do a lot of adding...so imagine the deletion going on here every year!

I have 1/3 of an acre, which isn't bad for California.  But, it's full up. :D

You'll see them along the way here.  Slammed with work this week.  This hybrid hasn't done much yet, so we'll see how it develops.

Ben, mine hasn't done a whole lot either. I'm at 3 fronds this summer so far, but mine did have some significant root damage from shipping when I got it last fall. It's a full 5 gallon pot now at least.

PJC x J has grown fairly steadily for me - not pinnate yet though.

Yours looks to be happier than mine. I haven't fertilized mine at all for fear of burning it. And I also placed it in full sun, which made the new leaves shrink dramatically compared to the leaves it grew over at Patrick's place. We'll have to experiment with hybridizing once ours get to flowering age.

I kept mine in partially shaded. Try to put some shade on yours. For some reason this one out grown the jubaea x syagrus seedling.

Can't say for certain. I don't allow the soil to dry up though. In 100+ degree heat, that means almost daily. Less as the temps cool.

Hey, I have a butia x jubaea x syagrus (or maybe it's J x B x S?? - can't remember) which is likely about to become free for any takers who want it.  I am becoming impatient with its slow growth rate. It is in a 15 gallon pot, so no one is going to be interested unless they live within a reasonable radius of Gainesville, Florida. I can't ship a 15 gallon pot because it's too big. Plus, it's a free gift.

If you are interested, please send me a personal message through PalmTalk. I am not in a rush to get rid of it. In fact, I may be willing to wait a bit longer for it to start growing more.

Warning: my specimen might be a dud. I may have only had it for about 2 years, but it really does not grow much at all. I have decided that it requires more patience than I have. This should be a consideration for you as well. Yes, it is a fast-growing palm for some people, but this particular specimen has not been fast for me.  Whichever hybrid it is, it's the one which some PalmTalkers complain has spotted leaves. Mine does not have spotted fronds, fortunately.

Only takers who have a very sunny location should consider this offer. The specimen did not grow a single centimetre when it was initially planted in shade. It has spent the summer in a pot in a half sun/half shade location and has done better in that environment, but still unimpressive in its growth rate.

Hello, this is my Parajubaea Cocoides x Jubaea I got from Patric some years ago. It is now about 6 feet high including pot.  What do you think?

Anybody showing Parajubaea cocoides in this size to see differences or is mine pure Parajubaea? Mine is growing about 1 inch per day if weather is good and much slower if bad weather. See pics and Mov.

And show me your hybrids please.

I Also have a smaller one... seen also on the pics

Happy Growing

Wow, yours is very nice looking. Thank you for these wonderful pictures.

I posted September 20, 2020 my smaller juvenile one from Patric. It is now looking a little bit more typical.

I keep it in winter under extra light and 16C, so it will grow on a little bit:
