Sucker for a free Palm

I'm a sucker for a free palm. I noticed my neighbour was cutting this Kentia back for removal. So I stepped in and opened my big mouth and said "I will remove it for you". Knowing full well that the neighbour was just going cut it up into manageable pieces for disposal. So here it is just under 1.5m tall. Access was a little limited, so not the root ball I was aiming for,  but it will do. Plus We are heading into summer, and it's an El Nino cycle. The odds are not the great.

Keep it moist and shaded; I'd re-establish it in a pot before re-homing it in your garden. It's a lot easier to protect it.

Kentias readily survive transplanting.

Keep us apprized!

I did think about the pot option, but didn't want to go through the transplant again two or tree years from now, so its found a cool shady place close to a water source in the back yard.

Good luck Martin. I think a pot would be the easier option. Howea roots are pretty resilient shouldn't have very much set back once tranfered back into the ground. It will probably grow either way though. This summer is looking to be very hot and dry. Lucky Adelaide has a desalination plant that has hardly been needed since it was built.
