Those gardens do certainly have a great collection in a great setting!! I know for a fact that there are many more in the wings just waiting to be planted as well! As many of us are aware all thanks to Colin (fm palmtreesforpleasure). I'm sure there are a few palms that you have missed so you will have to make another trip back to the gardens with your camera :winkie:

Thanks for the tour Mohsen. It has been a few years since I was last there. Fingers crossed I'll find some time in November.

Let me know when you are in Sydney, we might go there together ,

Where's the flying foxes?  :P  I really enjoyed my trip to RBG-Sydney.  Look forward to coming back one day, and climbing that beautiful bridge!  The palms and cycads there are great. I remember thinking that if the Encephalartos were planted as out in the open here in the states as they are there, they'd have had to post guards to prevent them being stolen.

Land O Lakes FL, a suburb on the North Side of Tampa, FL

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I am a Kayaker, Hiker, Bicyclist, and amateur Photographer that loves the outdoors.

Loved the pictures

I had many trips the RSBG with Colin Wilson ( palmtreesforpleasure) as Colin has donated over 400 new species into the garden - until then nothing had been planted since the 1980's

Nice photos! When I was there in 1979 there were not many different species, only the standard ones which you could see almost everywhere. – Did you also take a pic of the Lytocaryum weddellianum (Syagrus weddelliana)?

Oh, sorry! I’ve found it. It was a little bit too dark!

Do you remember how thick was the trunk of this Lytocaryum? If the thickness was something between 5 and 10 cm it is a Lytocaryum insigne = Syagrus insignis!

Pal, I think it was around 10cm but not too sure

If the diameter is much more than 3 cm it is definitely a L. insigne = S. insignis.

Hello Mohsen, I would like to post your photo of Lytocaryum insigne ("weddellianum") in my photo pool on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/groups/2451781@N20/pool/

Of course the copyright and all other rights remain on your side. Will it be okay? It is very hard to get photos of adult plants of this species.

Hello Mohsen

Taken us on a good photo tour of the gardens.

It it time the old palm sign is replaced . For some reason they keep forgetting to do so. I will bring it up again. Species no is about 550 now with more to come albeit at a slower pace. Nearly all the next plants to go out have been grown from seed. A plant out meeting will be happening in the next few weeks and a lot more will be planted out before xmas.

The good thing is you have plenty more species still to find and photograph.

After the next plant out for those who are interested I could take you on a tour of the collection including the ones not planted out yet

Glad you are all enjoying the expanded palm collection

Regards

Colin
