How much sugar is in that soda you love to drink ?...............

trioderob

Recommended Posts

its the amount - its not like you are having a non sweetened iced tea and you add a packet of sugar.

its like you are adding 15 - 30 packets.

you see a fat person bet you dollars to donuts they are a big soda drinker.

now some folks have legitimate physical disorders - but most are just soda drinkers

its bad - I see women 19-28 who are grossly overweight.

i am talking EXTREMELY overweight.

then what do I see them do ? - order a HUGE soda with 30 packets of sugar

couldn't agree more. haven't done any research on it but isn't high-fructose even worse than cane sugar.i know any added sugar is not good for us. but every other country use cane sugar but America we use high-fructose. millions overweight and diabetic and now the pharmaceuticals companies have them all on medication to apparently fix the disorder....what a racquet.

Agree, but anything is excess is usually bad for you, and anything in moderation is usually OK.

I love sugar.

Me too... if you ever need to bulk up it is the best way... well depending on body type. Recently I invested in an espresso machine to combat my Starbucks addictions... I assume those syrups are right on par.

In Europe our "high fructose corn syrup" has to be labeled by a more appropriate name, glucose-fructose syrup. That is a clue how reactive these sugars are in your blood. In the U.S. It apparently had to do with stimulating corn income and hence a tariff was put on sugar imports to further bolster the conversion away from cane sugar. But I think the bigger problem is the hugely enhanced sweet tolerance of the public. There are some good alternatives such as GuS (Grown Up Soda), with about half the sweetness and made with cane sugar. This I think is a better alternative to aspartame and other sweeteners that have potential health concerns. Alternatively you can dilute Mexican Coke (cane sugar) with Perrier or similar and lots of ice, to wean yourself from high sugar needs. It is truly dangerous and the diabetes and obesity problems all blossomed in the post-war period of nonfat/high-sugar dietary recommendations for an increasingly sedentary population.

Yes...shocking when you stack the cubes like that. I have just about stopped drinking sodas just for this reason. Make a gallon of tea and put 9 tablespoons sugar in it. Never did the artificial sweetner ....always knew that crap couldn't be good for me.

Drink a couple, burn it off by planting a few dozen palms.

According to your diagrams, I would be obese, and I never drink sodas. I do like to eat though. The biggest weight gain came when I switched from a push mower to a rider.

Worse than the sheer amount is the type of sugar. Complex sugars, like those found in fruits and vegetables, metabolize more slowly than the "simple" sugars like those found in sodas. So, you get a "spike" of sugar from soda you don't get from fruits and veggies. (Yeah, carrots have sugar. But, you'd need to eat 10 pounds to get a spike of carrots. Turn orange, like the Kardashians.)

The spike is bad because it raises blood sugar and can give rise to insulin resistance.

baloney! That article is baloney. People are fat because they don't eat right and because they don't exercise. I'm tired of people giving their own thoughts and feelings and calling it science.

It's still baloney. In the future they will change their minds and research and tell us about it. It happens over and over again.

Here's a rule for health information: if it comes from the mercola website its either complete baloney or its distorting facts so much they lose their original scientific intent. He is worse than Dr. Oz. Mercola is the same guy that warns against the dangers of microwaving food, eating GMOs, using cell phones, and getting vaccines, yet he also actively promotes tanning in the sun and in tanning beds (which are conveniently sold on the site). I work in a diabetes and metabolism research lab and I can not even begin describe how infuriating it is to try and read one of those articles. He is taking advantage of people's lack of science knowledge for his own gain. These articles for the most part are nothing more than a mash up of science words trying to pass off as knowledge. Here is a gem from his article against microwave cooking: "a calorie today will provide you less nutrition than a calorie from 100, or even 50 years ago." A calorie is not even a nutrient its a measure of energy. I would go further but the stupidity in those articles is too much.

Here is a quick article against mercola and his anti-aspartame article http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-mh-aspartame-and-pepsi-20150427-column.html

Yes many people eat too much sugar but to try and blame this as the cause of the obesity epidemic is to ignore dozens of other factors that play into the problem.

Its recommended that you only loose about 2 pounds per month on a long term diet. Those numbers can change depending on size of person and duration of low calorie diet.

This is why I always drink ice water at restaurants and also at home. I used to drink Pepsi/Coke and made my coffee really sweet, but I stopped doing that some 10 years ago.

Not only am I saving money (ice water is usually free in US restaurants), but it's much healthier.

To loose a pound it takes about 3,500 calories. There is about 1,680 calories in a 12 pack of coke soda. If you drink a 12 pack of coke per week. In a month you should loose about 2 pounds.

In an ideal world this is true, but weight loss doesn't quite always work like that. Just watch an episode of the biggest loser. Contestants are on a dietitian approved calorie restricted diet, work out for hours every day which results in net negative calories for the day. They should be burning fat to generate the energy they need to keep moving and yet some weeks they lose almost no weight or gain back a few lbs. Besides calories there is a person's metabolism, activity level, hormones, and genetics all contributing to how food is processed and energy is used and/or stored. Some people have a genetic predisposition towards obesity. While others can seemingly eat all day long and not gain a pound. Yes an excess of sugary drinks like soda is contributing to the obesity epidemic but just cutting out soda won't necessarily fix the problem. Also I am no where near an expert, I just work in the field.

Theoretically at least.
