Hello!

Having to work Sundays is a real bother when you want to go to palm meetings, hence my absence. I have an opportunity to take time off this year so hopefully I can make my time match up with a palm meeting or two.

Are the dates for this year's meetings known yet?

Thanks a lot!

Oakley, California

55 Miles E-NE of San Francisco, CA

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

If you're down in Altadena on March 21, you're welcome to attend the PSSC meeting.

Just saying . . . .

Thanks Dave and John,

If I do wind up down there it would be worth a visit, no doubt!

If you end up near La Habra (near Whittier) any weekend, shoot me a PM, can get you my garden, and likely the Hoopers' too.

Edith recently sent out emails to local chapter members regarding the Sunday, May 31 meeting to be held at the Josephson's garden in Santa Cruz. The info is now posted on the Palm Society of Northern California chapter's website along with info on the September 20 meeting at the Bergstrom's garden in Atherton. Here's a link to the chapter's announcement page with the info:

http://www.palmsnc.org/pages/events.php

As mentioned in the member emails and website announcements, Dwight Ries (Palm Heaven Nurseries, Carlsbad/Vista Ca) will be attending the May meeting at the Josephson's and will deliver palms ordered prior to then. There will also be a member's palm auction during the meeting.

Bump!

Thank you for posting! Hope to see everyone at Richards on Sunday. His place is an awesome Victorian in the beach community of Santa Cruz!

Date: Sunday, May 31st, 2015
Time: 1:00 to 5:00 PM
Location: 119 Effey St., Santa Cruz

The garden of Richard Josephson; 119 Effey St., Santa Cruz. Potluck, meeting and auction. The Josephson garden is a well established (1983) collection of palms, bamboos and subtropicals in the coastal community of Santa Cruz. Situated in Sunset zone 17, the garden features mature Acoelorrhaphe wrightii and Phoenix reclinata (both with 18 ft. trunks!) as well as mature Rhopalostylus sapida and baueri. Many other palms are featured including a Caryota gigas that is likely the largest in Northern California. A large pond and greenhouse are also included in this wonderful garden. From the peninsula take US-101 south to exit #398 Cupertino/Santa Cruz on to CA-85 South. Next take the San Jose/ Santa Cruz exit on to CA-17 south to Santa Cruz. Turn left on Broadway, left on Cayuga St. and right on Effey St. More details soon.

Dwight Ries of Palm Heaven Nurseries located in Carlsbad and Vista, CA. He grows 100's of different and unusual rare palm species. All of his palms are grown outside, so there is very little acclimatization needed. Many of you already know Dwight from a few years of delivering palms for special orders to the SF Bay area region. He will be coming up again to deliver special orders on Friday May 29th thru Sunday May 31st. He will be at the Northern CA Palm Society meeting at Richard Josephsons in Santa Cruz on Sun 5/31. He is delighted to be able to donate a few palms to the organizations auction. After the auction he will have a select amount of 1 gal to 5 gal palms for purchase as well. Also some of you that have been preordered can pick up their palms at Richards meeting/garden tour. This would help greatly to reduce the delivery route and discounts can be made for delivery rate. He also have a select variety of Cycads and a great many different cultivars of Plumeria (the Hawaiian Lei flower).

He can be reached at 760-845-1920 or emailed at drplumerias@aol.com for inquiries, specials, list of availability with temps and prices, photos etc.

All nursery item deliveries are potted and carefully transported in protected cargo trailer.
