Bruce McAlpin to Speak at February 2nd Meeting :

We are happy to announce that The South Florida Palm Society's first meeting of 2015 will feature a program by Bruce McAlpin, longtime botany professor at Miami-Dade College.

Bruce is well-regarded among tropical plant lovers all over southern Florida and, in fact, throughout the United States. Having become interested in plants at age 5, he has accumulated vast knowledge cutting across a number of families.
He has given numerous programs to plant societies around the state, and the hallmark of his presentations is practicality -- he knows how to use everyday, affordable materials to produce high-quality plants.

Bruce's program this coming Monday is on germinating palm seeds. He'll disclose a tip he learned many years ago from Bob Wilson, legendary owner of Fantastic Gardens, a place which truly lived up to its name.

The meeting is at 7:00 pm Monday, February 2 in the Corbin Bldg. at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd., Coral Gables. Please note that entry to the Garden will be through the gate next to the ticket booth, not through the education gate.

The SFPS will provide light food fare, and, as usual, we'd be happy if you would supplement that with a potluck delicacy. We have some bodacious cooks in the Society.

Members are also encouraged to bring plants for the post-program auction.
