Roscheria melanochaetes in Seychelles

Actually we didn't see Roscheria in his habitat (which seems to be higher altitudes in the mountains on Mahé island) but in The Vallée de Mai and in the botanic garden of Mont-Fleuri, Victoria. Anyway I was happy to discover this beauty.

I am looking forward to growing this species in Doranakanda gardens (got 10 seeds from RPS in december) if I am able to do it.

The higher altitude may explain why this species seems to be the most cold hardy, in reference to Seychelles palms...

Andrew,

How tall did you see Roscheria plants in Florida?

I saw Roscheria for the first time with this photos I did last week.

Quite young plants, no?

Very cool Philippe! And a very underrated palm IMO. Those two in the last pic are grown two perfection. They seem to look the best at this size. Thanks for posting.

Cheers

You won't find tall Roscheria growing here in south Florida. They get taken out with our sporadic cold snaps. I lost all of mine back during the 2010 freeze.
