"FAKE" palms ? (Caryota)

The Silent Seed

What the heck ?

Was looking for Pisonia umbellifera variegata - and came across this gem…. (Copy and paste) from "piece of eden" - a blog about legoland? I guess we should start calling palms bananas. We've been hoodwinked!

There were several Caryotas (Fishtail Palms), which are not true palms--they are more like bananas--blooming once and dying, but leaving offsets behind to carry on.

When I was at the palm sale at Fairchild a couple weeks ago, we took a ride on the tram to take a rest from walking all day. The lady that was the guide was good until we came across some Serenoa repens, she said here are some Saw Palmetto, they are not true palms. I thought, really!! I think you should be a bit more knowledgeable about palms if you work as a guide in Fairchild.

Lived in Cape Coral, Miami, Orlando and St. Petersburg Florida.
