Rainforest Meets The Beach

Last weekend I took a short trip to Trinidad's most popular beach, Maracas.  It is only about 20 minutes from the Capital, Port of Spain, reached along the North Coast Road.  It is very scenic.  I took a couple of shots along the way.

This photo is taken from a lookout where almost everyone stops for a photo op, purchase a souvenir or stock up on supplies or to participate in one of our favorite exercises, bending the elbow (taking a drink!)

Looking in the opposite direction from the previous photo you can see some small islands that have broken off from the mainland.

The lookout also serves as the entrance to private property, Timberline, which previously had cottages and a restaurant, where I have enjoyed excellent meals.  It is planted with bouganvillea.

Bob-

I always enjoy your Trinidad photos.  Keep 'em coming!

My best friend is from Trinidad (but now lives in South FL) and he and I have talked many times about me and him taking a trip back there.  (He and his wife go back a few times a year to visit family).  But, with a young family of my own at home, finding a good time has proven tough.

I'm always on the lookout for palms.  Here is a Euterpe climbing over the brush.

The water is not the calmest close to the shore, but my kids just loved the waves.  The scenery wasn't too bad either.  We had a great time.  Two views of the beach.
