Bismarckia nobilis ( Dubrovnik )

Cikas, it is ironic that your life time's cold spell had been double that severe than the equuvalent one in my garden, while Dubrovnik has a much warmer microclimate in average than my place. Did you treat your Bismarckia with copper based fungicide after the cold spell? Maybe you should not give up on the Bismarckia project and try again. Very unlikely that it will occure another such severe cold spell during the rest of your life time.

All my plants were totally unprotected during that cold event ( early 2017. ). My Bismarckia looked undamaged. We had alot of rain after cold wave. In the spring when temperatures started to really rise, spear of my Bismarckia began to dry ( everything happened to fast, it is basically my fault, because I did not treat it with anything ). When I detected the rot, It was to late. The rot went to deep. Growing point died. My Bismarckia was simply too young and small. Will I try Bismarckia again?, who knows, maybe :D. But for now there is alot of palm species I want to try first. I need to expand my sabal, brahea, phoenix, livistona, butia and chamadorea collection. I want to try arenga and rhapis palms. Also recently I started to collect cycads too. Soo we will see what future has in store. :)

I brought mine from this nursery few years ago.
From time to time they offer strelitzia alba and other strelitzia species and types.

PS. Yes of course many things can not grow here. I'am living in mediterranean ( Csa ), not in tropical climate.

You have lots of better option than Bismarckia. Braheas armata, clara, calcicola, Sabal uresana, causarium, dominguensis...

With Bismarckia your wet Winters will be a problem and with lots of nice cold hardy palms, who needs a Bismarckia?
