Mazari Leaf Tip

Here's an interesting characteristic I'm noticing with my Kashmir Mazari. The bifurcated pinnae in the center of the frond cross over each other. It's happening on all the newer fronds. Kinda cool.

Here's an overall shot of the growing palm.

Very nice ...how old?

I got a tiny one that put on three juvenile leaves this summer .....guess it's a rocket. A little "arabica" rotted....they seem more suseptable to rot

Nice looking Mazari, I have an Arabica ( Iranian silver) & it's a beauty. It's easily in my top 5 fastest growing palms.

I to would like to know how old it is? & how many offshoots has it put out?

David,

I've had the opposite experience. Arabica has been less susceptible to rot than the other Mazaris I've tried.

I've tried the silver form several times with repeated failure in the teens with moisture. I grew this Mazari from seed in the Spring of 2009. It was absolutely smoked the first two years and I had spear pull this past year. With heat, these aren't especially slow. I'd say they're more frond happy than Sabal. Probably more like Chamaerops. It has around 7 offsets right now. The largest is obviously centered in the photo above. The fronds are very thick, but they have a softness/pliability to them that's unexpected. It's a joy seeing some of my seed grown palms obtain mature characteristics.

Also, they're not the bright silver form, but it'd be hard to describe these are remotely green.

Mentioned this in a previous thread but I'll drop it here again, adding crushed lime rock to the soil around my two standard silver mazari's seemed to bring them back from the brink of death. Actually thought one was too far gone but I noticed a couple of weeks ago it was pushing up a nice silvery spear from an offset. Planted these two as beautiful and large 3 gal plants that immediately went into decline after being planted in my sandy and very well drained soil. Maybe put out 1 leaf each over a year long decline. Thought they were goners but added some lime rock and one has already put up 4 leaves this year.

The main thing with Mazari are the roots. They're pretty sensitive to root disturbance.

Wow Buffy! Thats a nice Mazari.

I tried the Kashmir form from seeds, but they slowly died after planted out. Maybe a lack of heat. How warm are your summers?
