I just learned David McLean, A larger-tha-life figure in South Florida horticulturalist passed away on June, 4, 2014. I had the good fortune to meet up with David on many occasions & he was quite a character. He was a teacher, friend & all around self confessed plant nut. He will certainly be missed by those who had the opportunity to know him.

David was one of those unique people that touched literally thousands of lives over the years. He was truly a plantsman, extreamly knowledgeable in many families of plants. David was one of my teachers while attending Broward College in obtaining my degree in horticulture. I have known him 38 years, he will be missed greatly. RIP my good friend.

I just found out today when Penny sent out an email. Sad to see David go. He was one of those people you think of as eternal, he has been around so long and affected the lives and careers of so many people. We will all miss his knowledge and sense of humor.

Wow - just saw this - I had the good fortune to meet him once a few years ago - He had the neatest little nook and cranny nursery in a tiny pocket in Ft Lauderdale - I loved my visit there. What a shame - he was world class - and I could see that from our brief 1/2 hour together. He had a certain passion for plants like I do, so it was a surprise to see this.

Not to sound callous, but what will happen to his collection? Hopefully it will be in good hands.
