I have 4, they all survived this past winter.  Ultimate low 16f, snow, ice, and a week below freezing.  That was our arctic blast event.  A month or so later they were subjected to 17 and 19 on two consecutive nights.  These had varying degrees of protection.

Specimen number one.  ZERO protection!  It was covered in ice for a week.  All the fronds died off but it's pushing out a new frond.  The suckers at the bottom did not lose their foliage!  Ground effect heat I guess.  Note this is an open carport behind it, not the house.  So no thermal benefit here.  Not beautiful yet but it's working on it

Specimens number 2 and 3 were both protected with a simple frost cloth, no supplemental heat.  I also tried some pipe insulation on specimen number two during the 17 and 19 nights but it somehow looks worse than number 3.  Number 3 looks dang near flawless!

Specimen 2 looks ratty but is coming back pretty strong:

Specimen 3 looking good:

Specimen 4 I'm not going to show because I cheated and used supplemental heat so nothing remarkable.
