Help with stalled seedling growth

freddyuk

Recommended Posts

I have successfully got various seeds to germinate at approx 85 F and removed from bottom heat to prevent root damage. The seedlings have stopped growing at two primary leaves .

I guess this due to lack of heat?? The room temp around 70 F .

Have i done fatal damage?

Should i return to a warmer environment?

Should i replace plastic bag covering?

Thanks very much

Steve,

If you warm them up they should start growing again, most palm seedlings will do better at 80 F than 70. If your humidity is good, no need to cover with plastic. If your air is dry, you can place the pots inside plastic bags with the tops left open, this works well for me in the winter.

From my limited experience, 70°F won't cause any damage and eventually they will start growing again at that temperature, depending on the species.  There is probably a little shock from the sudden temperature change that has caused them to stall, but most seedlings will grow at 70°F, once they are over the shock, albeit slower than they would at the higher temperature.
