My neighbor's daughter was visiting Covina CA and she offered to donate for auction a week stay at their beach house here in Brazil, to help a local California health institution. 3 nice couples from SoCal won the bid and so they came last week for a Carnaval stay. My neighbor asked me to help translating and so our family enjoyed the weekend visiting in their company.

Here are a few pictures:

That's cool!  Were they surprized to learn that you've visited SoCal and keep in touch with many of us whom you've met?  That's a small world.

Gileno,

Well, even if they weren't all that impressed by your palms, they must have been blown away by the beauty of the place you live in! :)

They are still in my State at the moment and they went to check a 5 star resort in Porto de Galinhas (north of Sirinhaém) and decided to stay there for a couple of days. They are very nice and friendly people. Quite a change in temperature and a long LA-Atlanta-São Paulo-Recife trip. They were a little afraid of the sharky stories of our coast and kind of preferred to relax around swimming pools after their several short trips around, with our neibours. They've tasted (and enjoyed) many local fruits, seafood and BBQ style beef. Also tried most coconut made products, including coconut water ice cubes (on the coconut rocks too). We had fun showing them things around and hope they can come back to visit Recife and Olinda in the next time, and the same goes for everyone in this board, anytime.

Gileno...what are the agaves next to the Biz? Weberi or Tequilana?  Whatever, they will get big, and compete with the Biz for food.

If global warming means I can grow Cocos Nucifera, then bring it on....

Love that last photo Gileno, but then I love all those photos.  And I wish I had been the Kathy in front of that Pritchardia.

As I've said, you do live in paradise.

Nice!  Thanks for sharing those pics Gileno.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Yes I know the feeling Gileno, "Hey look at my Bizzies, overthere, two years in the ground" and they are probably seeing a slightly oversized "those palm trees that they put in the parking lot" and maybe they try to comply "yeah, nice" and then I look at the person who's just about done rolling her eyes, those that can look but for some strange reason, can't see...

Thanks folks.

Steve:

I'm not sure of the species (the agave). I've temporarily placed them near the Bismarckia, just to create a "blue spot" near the pool. Once the Bizzie grows up a little more I'll try to replace them with red flowers, and also keep the the lawn in a better shape.
