Mystery Ficus

Peter

Recommended Posts

Looking for id help from anyone.  This Ficus is growing at a friend's place in Hollywood Florida.  It was purchased from a specialist nursery, who described it as coming from volunteer seedlings germinating inside Staghorn ferns imported from Java.  I've googled a bit for Indonesian Ficus species but haven't come across anything matching this one.  The fruit is small, red, bland.  The leaves are huge, approx.  18"x24".

Anyone have any ideas?

Wow. Very nice Ficus. I would have guessed it was some form of Ficus carica. Not sure which. Gary Levine (username is "Gtlevine") would probably know as he seems to be the ficus guy around here.

Very nice plant, it doesn't look familiar. I like the leaf, and if it has a nice tasting fruit that would be a bonus. Maybe some 'uber' fig. It is probably right down the street from me and never seen it, lol.

If you bring a rooted cutting or airlayer down to me in Homestead it would make some nice trade bait!
