Fantastic report. Beautiful desert-roses, beautiful movable pond -  I need a few!. Beautiful plants in general.

Kris, with such a nursery, your basic needs are covered. Lipsticks and Licualas will never abandon you. Now you need the choicy stuff that can only be started from seed/seedling.

They should remove the dead palms to give a tidier appearance. They can scare customers!

How many employees do they have?

How dry is your region? Which is the natural vegetation of your area?

Also, do you get the Indian Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus)? I am very worried about this insect that has recently invaded the whole Mediterranean basin and two of the Canary Islands.

I love seeing Indian pictures, I basically think of food. There are thousands of indians living in Tenerife, mastering the sector of electronics import+commerce. I have some friends here from Utterpradesh and the nowPakistan who keep a restaurant FOR INDIANS (and few lucky whites) where I go at least once a week.

Kris,

Thanks for posting some great shots of this nursery. It looks like a big operation. Oh, thanks for thinking of me, I appreciate it. Maybe Joseph( Ortanique Seeds) can start sending some unusual palm seed over to expand his inventory of palms.  I wonder if Joseph knows the owner. And when are you going to come and visit us??

Thanks again,

Kris,

I especially like the gray/brown fuzzy-leaved plant in the shade house "Strobilanthes gossypinus".

I am with Carlo, I love Indian food very much.  I also happen to enjoy some bollywood film and music.

Cheers!

Jacob

Hi Kris

Great photos they all look fantastic!

Do your nurseries have many of your native species of palms over there like some of these; Phoenix paludosa, Phoenix pedunculata, Phoenix robusta, Pinanga dicksonii

Pinanga gracilis, Pinanga griffithii, Pinanga hookeriana, Rhopaloblasta Augusta, Salacca secunda, Trachycarpus martiana, & Wallichia disticha, and not to forget Bentinckia condapanna!!

They do not seem to grow these ones in these nurseries?

Thank you very much for these great photos if you do have any more please list, :)

ps those seedlings were bismarkia seedlings not red latania in post 85

And YES Kris, Very Happy. :D  :D  :D

Dear clayton  :)

iam glad you have seen one of the nurseries in madras,

and you have also noticed that they do not stock any

exocitic varities.and when i asked them they bluntly

answered that there are no many kris type of people

who knows what is what or will pay the exact market price

for the grown up specimens.instead all buy only areca palms,

royal palms, livestonia, fishtail, foxtail palms and the overall

mass in south india have no taste for new or peculier looking

plants.

And as you have pointed out, even i said that it is bismarkia

silver form, but they showed the seeds by removing the

top soil.its not as big as seen in basmarkia.and the sprouts have dark red veins which is not seen in bismarkia.

once the leaves open i will take stills of these palms

once again.

And as for the govermenent run horticulture society in

madras,i often visit this place and also have some

transaction with these folks.when i asked for permission

to shoot the palms of this garden.my request was turned

down.but i see lots of shooting going on there and those

unit guys are all playfully are tearing the leaves when they

are talking.i do not know what my digital camera will do

to those plants ?

I am very dissappointed with these guys !

Love,

Kris  :)
