Palm Soc. So-Cal ANNUAL BANQUET, January, 2014.

DoomsDave

Recommended Posts

The banquet will be at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach on January 18th 2014. The address is 1107 Jamboree Rd. Newport Beach.

The banquet cost is $45.00. Parking is $8.00 per vehicle.

We suggest that those who can carpool should. There is free parking on the some of the surrounding streets, however, there would be some walking involved to get to the hotel.

There is also a hotel room rate of $139.00 per night for those who would like to stay the night before or the night following the banquet. This room rate is good for the first 10 rooms with a minimum of 8 rooms booked. The deadline for a room count is Oct. 24th.

MORE DETAILS:

The PSSC's board meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Bill Dickenson will be conducting guided tours of the hotel's palm collection starting at 10:00 a.m. on January 18, 2014. Meet the group in front of the hotel near the big Jubaeaopsis caffra.

Bill is a long-time PSSC member who knows the history of all the plants planted there.

If you like, you're also welcome to engage in a self-guided tour. We recommend allowing at least an hour to feast your hungry eyes on the wonderful palms planted there. The Jubaeaopsis out in front is only the beginning!

At about 1:00 p.m, Jack and Lindsey Sayers will give a presentation about their trip to Borneo, including lots of photographs which will include fauna as well as flora.

At about2:00 there will be a general meeting and plant auction. Donations are, as always, welcome. The best plants are rare palms in 1 - 5 gallon pots.

See you there!

We'll have two guest speakers this year. Mark Riedler will show some incredible slides from his trip to Madagascar, and I'll have pictures from our trip to Borneo (a likely destination during the 2016 biennial, so a bit of a preview for that event). I hope to see all of you there!
