Ciczi in Sweden

Forum name; Ciczi

The name has been used since she was born, but the spelling came from a desire to be unique on a forum back in 1999.

Discovering gardening interest back in 2004 she started small by making a small summer meadow. From this it all evolved to studying gardening and horticultural subjects at the Swedish Agricultural University (SLU) for two years. Somewhere along that road Ciczi discovered palmtrees and the fact that she lives in a town which has palmtrees as a town logotype and palms both here and there, made her do her final thesis on the subject Hardy palms for Scandinavian climate.

Her fascination for palmtrees isn't so much the beauty of them as it is possibly to grow them in a climate not normally suited for them.

She got her first palm 2008, a quite large Phoenix robelenii. And the fact that it wouldn't survive the cold winters made her think of how to make it survive. This resulted in turning an old bombshelter from WW2 to a palm sanctuary from November to April.

Ciczis gardening interest has made her start her own business in gardening, specialising in maintenance. She says -It is the best job in the world.

Other interests is reading books, photography, turning fruits and vegetables in to juice, jams and other good stuff, taking care of her family and together with her husband, raising their son born in 2010.

Along with Bo-Göran Lundkvist, I had the opportunity to meet Ciczi in May, 2012 at her home in Trelleborg. I was in complete awe of the healthy palms she managed to grow under the most challenging conditions. She even gave us a tour of her bomb shelter, aka winter palmetum. She served her homemade lingonberry saft with cake after the garden tour, and it was a most memorable visit.

That was definitely a very memorable and enjoyable visit on a perfect summer day, even though technically it wasn't summer quite yet! I already posted two photos in Ciczi's "Stolen Palms" thread a couple of months ago. Here's a link (and the photos are in Post #30):

And why not - one more photo! :)

Ciczi, lycka till med dina palmer! :)
