Ficus natalensis 'Malay Gold'- Triangle Fig (Variegated Fig #2)

Ficus natalensis ssp. leprieurii, Triangle Fig is a shrubby fig usually growing 8-10ft tall. It has small triangular leaves and was formerly known as F. triangularis. 'Malay Gold' is a nice variegated form. This fig is native to Tropical Africa.

I used to have this as a houseplant in CA years ago. Can't recall if low humidity and household abuse killed it or if an attempt to grow it outdoors did.

The non variegated form grows outside here. That thing looks really cool

It is also much slower than the green form so far. I have also seen the variegated form called 'Coconut Ice'.

More common (and considerably more cold-tolerant) in SoCal is the green F. deltoidea. (Mistletoe Fig).

It's Asian in origin.
