Phoenix canariensis and the crown

What normaly causes the crown to rot and pull out in winters of Phoenix canariensis? Is it hard frost or cool, wet weather or both?

to low temps in comination with to much rain/snow. I had a bigger one in my garden. But it died. Exotic life has a big one in his garden in Holland. He protects it every year against wet and the severe freeze

Mine pulled here in central FL due to a combo of prolonged freezes/chill and wetness. It took over 2 years for the crown to return to normal
