I have been-and I was very disapppointed with the Virgin Islands botanically- Puerto Rico is much lusher....but my favorite spot- St.Lucia is close to paradise.:) St.Thomas is rather dry and feral goats have destroyed lots of the vegetation-when I was there only the Royal Poinciana looked good-but underwater the coral and fish are breathtaking.....just my opinion....your mileage may differ ;)

My experience was similar. St. Johns was wonderful, especially compared to St. Thomas, and more forested. I saw many agaves. I remember the trip quite specifically, because it was my honeymoon. I went there expecting to see a wild tropical jungle, but when I was actually hiking in the forests, it reminded me quite a bit of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, except for the sea nearby and the occasional palm tree. I was somewhat disappointed. When I got home, I started looking up subtropical plants that I could grow in Virginia, and now 11 years later, My yard looks about as tropical as I remember St. Johns looking.

God bless America...

and everywhere else too.
