Geoff 274 Report post Posted January 26, 2007 Two seedlings, 1 3' tall, and 1 18" tall, planted against a wall that seems to be offering moderate cold protection. Temps just a few feet from these plants were 27F for 5 hours. Plants are also under shade cloth. No detectable damage on either plant, though seedling Chamaedorea woodsoniana burned quite noticably just 1' away.
iwan 210 Report post Posted January 27, 2007 Can someone define "really cold" in this context please?
BobSDCA 6 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 I have one three foot tall L. ramsayi that is still alive after the 2007 freeze. In that year the palm received a 29.5F temperature for 3 hours for one night and had some bronzing on one or two leaves that were more horizontal. This plam is planted on a north side canyon under 40-50% canopy. There was some frost on that side of the house that night.
