The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

That doesn't happen there / So when you run make sure you run / To something and not away from

Cause lies don't need an aero plane / To chase you anywhere

The sunrise didn't have the colors I was hoping for, but the full moon setting made for a different kind of sunrise.  Last shot is looking north South Ponto, Carlsbad Power Plant and lights on Oceanside pier in the far distance.  Even captured the Washingtonia robustas in the South Carlsbad Campgrounds.  Tide was too high for surf this morning in the neighborhood unless you like surfing the backwash.

President's day morning out for a walk with the dog and a camera in Leucada to Bataquitos Lagoon (border of Carlsbad and Encinitas).  First some butchered Washingtonia's against the start of the sunrise.  Second shot shows that not all Syagrus romanzoffiana are ugly all the time, as the one in the left of the frame was silhouetted against the morning's colorful sky.  Final shot is looking at the Western portion of Bataquitos Lagoon through the train trestles with Leucadia in the foreground silhouetted against the sunrise.

Cropped or un-cropped?

Bolsa Chica State Beach CA...

I like cropped.  Gives it a panoramic look. Nice capture.

Bolsa Chica State Beach CA...

Late to the game but I'll weigh in that the cropped works better imo.  One is that the rule of thirds would indicate you don't want the horizon line of dark and light splitting your scene in half, so your cropped version puts more weight on the sky and pays more attention to the primary subject.  Yes, you lose part of the tail of the lightray through the dark area, but if that were the main attraction of the shot, you could reverse the crop to retain it.  I prefer to get things right with composition but sometimes you can't because you don't have the right lens or objects in the way that you just can't exclude from your composition.  I almost always shoot with prime lenses so am continually thinking about moving closer or walking back from subjects to get it right.  Cropping also solves the problem of not always wanting the photo in the native proportions of your film or now sensor... so keep cropping when your eye tells you to Butch!  Nice capture.

Thank you Tracy... I'm a very incompetent photographer... My best shots always seem to be when I don't have my DSLR with me... Usually, a old Nikon W/P point and shoot (Out fishing) or my cell phone... Thank God for cropping ...

I didn't think of that... I gave the reverse crop a try, and it looks pretty good.. I was just trying to get rid of all that "black" at the bottom of the pic.. Thank you for the free "Photo 101" lesson..

We rented a place on the beach in Pacific Beach CA (San Diego) for a week and a half... I really only got one sunrise pic, while surf fishing... Nothing really special, just something while wading in the surf...

Soupy Humid ( Mon-soup ) evening but all that moisture wasn't enough to pull the trigger today, at least up this way. Different story in /around Tucson, up in the mountains.  Interesting sunset none the less..

Dark skies to the east near sunset are a good omen, even if more threatening looking than they actually are today..

DSC04520.JPG.d92c7e8070cb77a7de6cb7f89d61c55a.JPG

Passing outflow boundary in the mid levels popped some nice Cumulus / AltoCum. varieties but overall flow is still a bit weak to get those clouds to do much.  Clear skies well to the west and the sheering tops of pulse-type storms 60-70 miles to the south added the " Blueberry Skies " colors to the lower clouds.
