I have only just heard the sad news. Condolences to all his close friends and Palm Talk friends who knew him. I also admired his fantastic collection of cold hardy palms.

RIP Richard :-(

Dick is silent, but his garden is still speaking volumes. And I was delighted to recently find out that one his palms is the parent of one of my hybrids, so in a way he and his garden live on here as well.

Dick would have been 76 today. Really miss his presence on the forum.

I saw it was his birthday today when I logged in. Nice to see people remembering him today. I have several Chamaedorea microspadix palms (from a Palm society auction) that are growing on our porch that came from his seeds. I think of him and his contributions all the time.

And when I'm reading through an old thread and see his posts I still feel like he is with us here.

And I would like to add something. A few years back, my wife surprised me with a big 50th birthday party here at the house and Dick happened to be in town, showed up with Rick Lietner and really surprised the hell out of me. He by far was the longest distance any guest had come.

But his garden lives on, or at least I hope it does.   I got to visit it last year in a PRA thanks to the NorCal crew led by Cecile and Ben.  There were many changes as Dick's partner was "updating" the place.   It was one of the highlights of my PRAs as I never expected to see it after Dick's moving on.   I'll treasure that experience.
