MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted November 20, 2012 I've been meaning to do a garden update this year, but I think my garden has been photographed and posted here a lot. So since I just got a new camera, I thought that I'd try to do a garden tour with video. First Stop: Side Yard

Walter John 216 Report post Posted November 20, 2012 Very nice, great steady moving camera work, I'm a sucker for a soundtrack so I would add something like "At Last" by Etta James, that would fit well with the motion and of the terrific gardening feat by the CEO of Manambe Lavaka. MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted November 20, 2012 ohhh yeah, I forgot that I was going to add music!!!! OK. Since you guys like the videos, I'll finish up shooting the rest of the yard in the next few days and then add music to those.

DoomsDave 8,509 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 What's that KFC'd looking trio of palms in No. 25, first picture? Hard to tell what they are, and, if they're still around, hard to see in the second pic. Royals?
MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 Dave, Those are the same Teddy Bears as in post 22. I planted them on Christmas Eve 2007, which is when the pic in post 22 was taken. Then in post 25, Spring of 2008, they were pretty crispy! But obviously they've recovered nicely.

The Kentiopsis is huge now The arid area looks as good as any i have ever seen and is superbly landscaped for maximum effect all those small rocks and the blue plants look fantastic . Great growth in the Rainforest section alot of those palms were shorter than me in 2010 . I spotted the bigger Hedyscepe in mix as well . Looks like all your hard work is finally paying off WELL DONE Matty !

Palm crazy 1,353 Report post Posted December 6, 2012 Looks fantastic! I love what you did with the old wheel barrel having the plant growing up into it. Are you going to add any big succulents? They grow so good down there.

MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted December 6, 2012 I have some succulents if you look closely in the "xeric garden" video; echeverias, crassulas, aloes, semperviums, aeoniums, dudleya, graptoveria, senicio, kalanchoe, and I'm always adding more. What do you mean by "big succulents"?

MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted December 7, 2012 The videos captured the overall feel and layout of the garden, but didn't highlight some of the interesting individual palms. So I'll add some photos of some stuff that caught my eye this morning. Grown from seed sown in 2006, my Copernicia baileyana is finally looking like a real palm tree, and will soon be released from it's cage!
MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted December 7, 2012 Coccothrinax do really well on my sunny slope and rocky soil. I've got 5 planted in this area next to the dirt road, exposed to the afternoon sun.
MattyB 2,010 Report post Posted December 7, 2012 Our citrus trees are really doing well this year. Naval Orange and Bearss Lime (pictured below) are producing a lot of fruit right now. Sabal yapa is starting to get really large leaves. I don't think I've ever pruned a leaf off of this thing. It's gonna be a monster I think.
