Does anybody know anything about this sugar cane ?

That is one sweet looking plant. Is it your own? Looks like variagated buddha belly bamboo only more colourful.

Yes Neil I got it from a friend who was given a piece of root and didn't want it , didn't know what it was going to look like, but I am glade I kept it to see what it grew in to. I call it budda belly

That is a lovely sugarcane.........it certainly would be one of the very old varieties. I used to grow a couple of 'stumpy' cultivars in my old garden. My favourite was Badila with its thick purple/black stems, somewhat similar to yours but not as colourful.

i know this is an old post but I stumbled onto the picture searching for sugarcanes on google and it just wowed me. Anyone know the variety name or where or who has them for sale?

Prettty certain it is a select cv. of Badilla and should be a good chewing cane .

Just found what this variety is called.  Hawaiian Hilo Buddha Sugar Cane

quick search on google shows you some ebay auctions and several nurseries in Florida selling it. Pretty expensive plant from all sources.
