but the fire is so delightful and as we have nowhere to go; Let it snow let it snow let it snow"

Yes we have had our first decent snowfall for over twenty years and more is forecast for tonight.

Last time I was fit enough to ski but didnt have any skis and what little I did many years ago was at Verbier (France) and Gstaad (Switzerland).

A consolation is that it is unlikely to damage the palms but like everyone round here I have been taking garden pics at what is for us down here on the coast is a rare occurence.

Needless to say the snow covered S.romanzoffiana will be christened The Snow Queen.

John,

Sounds like a good time to snuggle up with the little lady and a glass of wine by the fireplace. :)

incredible Bilbo, you live at the warm southern end of britain and I live in the cold north bit and yet you get all the snow! We have got a lot of nasty cold frost tho which makes walking on the paths lethal!

Reminds me of visiting the Horticultural Society garden in Harrogate, where they had a Yucca gloriosa (native to South Carolina) with a sign proudly noting that the species had been growing in English gardens since some ridiculously early date in the 1500s.  But I don't recall any Trachycarpus up there.

Fla. climate center: 100-119 days>85 F

Current USDA hardiness zone 10a

Central Orlando's urban heat island may be warmer than us

Dave - Vero, not sure what they grow in Harrogate but T.fortunei  will grow quite happily even further North indeed anywhere but a sea front or other exposed windy area where do indeed survive but look teribble.

Jeff - cant get my gal to give me a cuddle cos I have her in the kitchen, re-papering for a textured finish and then painting it in "Primrose".

She seems to find the experience enjoyable . . .

I reckon I have things well organised here!
