MattyB 2,232 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 I'm getting pounded with high winds but rain is light. The wind is from the south and thats different than usual. decorative pots are blowing over and breaking, and the house is creaking with strong gusts. I dont like this at all. Jastin 317 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 I had some heavy rain for a while but light right now. 5-10 mph wind maybe. Not that bad but I still hate the wind. That sucks Matt, all wind is good for is making waves. I'm glad we're getting rain though, that fert that I put down is making everything look really good. Matt That is what happened to me last weekend with the rain storm that didn't do much. I'm use to the E and NE winds since Santa Ana winds are very common but 25+ mph winds from the W and WSW are not common at all. I had moved many of my potted stuff on the SW side of the house to protect it from the Santa Ana winds then I get W winds ruining everything. Mother Nature is a fickle b#tch. Not home now so don't know what is going on but the weather station nearest my house recorded 27mph SSE so THAT"S new too. Leo
MattyB 2,232 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 Yep thats what's happening. We're gusting over 40 mph for sure. Right this moment, it's very sill. Weird
MattyB 2,232 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 We had about an hour of high winds and then it went still, and that was it. I didn't even register 1/8" of rain. Bummer. Maybe, not much rain because it was such a fast moving storm.

Maybe, not much rain because it was such a fast moving storm. Do you think it didn't register because of the high winds blowing the rain away? I'm still using the "lick your finger and hold it in the air" technique for all my weather recordings. I'll get a weather station soon hopefully. Mats 32 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 Looks like the bulk of the rain fell in the Malibu - San Fernando valley area.

DALION 109 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 Those have to be year to date totals or totals for the month. Doubt those are for this storm alone.
MattyB 2,232 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 I bet you're right about it being from this month. Topanga and the mountains above Malibu are awesome for squeezing the moisture out of the atmophere. A jump in elevation from sea level to 2000 feet in just a few miles is really dramatic! Here's a view from a pic I took up in Topanga, looking down towards Santa Monica. Breathtaking views. MattyB 2,232 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 crazy! It says that we got 1/4", but my rain guage sure didn't catch it. My rain guage is pretty small in diameter so I wonder if the rain just blew over it in the high winds. That don't make no sense. Any way to tell what kind of winds they got up there, above Malibu? I bet it was 60MPH.
Stevetoad 2,024 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 my rain gauge shows .4 i did have 25mph winds. that a lot for my house
DippyD 165 Report post Posted March 26, 2012 Hey matt, what type of pritchardia is that? That thing is awesome looking.
DALION 109 Report post Posted March 27, 2012 Well that just seems very high. I wasn't home to check the gauge but didn''t think it rained that much. I do want to point out approximately where my home is. As you can see, I'm in the corridor between the Chino Hills and the Santa Ana mountain range so you know I feel the Santa Ana winds with some force. Hey wait! Look at that map again! It didn't rain over there so I was right!
