Geoff 274 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Had this palm as a seedling, too, in Thousand Oaks were it was totally unprotected, and year it got down to 25F it was burned pretty badly... but that was 25F for only an hour.. my current palm with mod protection in raised bed near house was exposed to 27F for at least 5 hours... maybe a hint of leaf burn is all. Bougainvillea and Plumerias right next to it totally defoliated. Nearby Aloe vaotsanda melted.

Austinpalm 237 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 Update on plant previously mentioned. Winter low was significantly colder in 2009/10 (16F) versus 2008/09 (28F). Palm is in 5-gallon size range and was protected with a plastic bucket and rank (decomposing) vegetation around the base. Damage to palm consisted of defoliation of oldest fronds. New spear remained green. Plant has since put forth a new spear and began growing. L. victoriae in the pic is between the camera and the bismarckia.
