Excellent!

I planted out three 3-4 footers last year in the deep shade of my north wall and its good to know that they are reasonably tough.

Good. I really wanted to keep mine out of the sun as well. Had no clue that I would need the canopy for cold.

This one didn't do so well.

Exposed to three nights of 24.8, and a consecutive night down to 27. F, no frost.

Spear's green, though.

  • 1 year later...

light spotting on mine after 2nd night at 32f with the 2nd having frost. It has about 4 foot of trunk. and surrounded by other palms. The only spots are on the fronds that are emerging into clear unprotected space.

With a tin cup for a chalice

Fill it up with good red wine,

And I'm-a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine.

These three palms are STILL 3-4 ft tall! They are in such deep shade that they just havent grown very fast. Winters also havent damaged them.

 Let's see, 24.8 makes -4C. Thanks, Dave! That gives me hopes for my single one.

It's still a baby and I was planning to plant it out in about 3 years.
