Alex, when I said you were "close," I was really talking about the texture and arrangement of the fibers on the trunk... but as it turns out, my comment also works for the island of origin as well. While C. spissa is also from Hispaniola, it has a finer-textured, less ornate, and "looser" fiber on the trunk that does not create the look of "webbing" like the other two species that you and "daandernach" mentioned have (as does the species in my photo that is yet to be identified). Perhaps this additional info will help?

Alex, here is a photo of the trunk of C. spissa for comparison:

Andrew, that was Alex's second guess... and it was incorrect. Sorry.

Andrew, that species has been already guessed (incorrectly) as well.

While Alex is busy figuring out the Coccothrinax here is another one. If Andrew knows it right away I hope he holds back to see if he is right.

Maybe I should read other's guesses, before I guess myself... but with 16 pages, it's daunting to look back! Coccothrinax from Hispanola... was about to say montana, but I see someone has guessed that and it's wrong--macroglossa is from Cuba, no? My guess is one of two(whichever's right): fragrans or concolor?

Ken, judging by the spines on the outer edge of the pictured leaf, it almost has to be a Copernicia. I am going to say C. macroglossa.

Nope and nope... sorry again, Andrew. BTW, I don't know C. concolor, but doesn't C. fragrans have much finer fibers more like the tall, "green-leafed" species like C. barbadensis or C. argentea?

Jody, I'm not familiar with either of the palms I wrote, but those are the only ones native to Hispanola, that were not mentioned. The weave looks like a hard leafed Coccothrinax like "Azul" and scoparia but neither are from there... I give up and so does palmweb.org!

C. gracilis?

Yes, Alex... it seems your powers of deduction extend to reduction, or should I say elimination? Good job.

Here is the palm in all of its glory:

Are all you Guessing Game "palm id'ers' ready for another difficult one, or would you prefer to move on to something easier? Let's see how this one goes:

That's exactly what it was. I don't remember ever seeing a C. gracilis nor could I find a picture of one on the web. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

Are you joking? I am betting it's a Coccothrinax and also that it was guessed, already, when guessing the last trunk photo you posted, Jody. :)

Sorry, Alex, no.

Yes and no, Andrew. It is another species of Coccothrinax but it was not guessed in my last Guessing Game.
