Nice photos, Ken. Care to try ID'ing the two species involved in this photo?

Now hold on. You knew we could ID the shadow because we would see the strange leaf arrangement right? Those funny forward raked leaflets? Some kind of vine palm? Chamaedorea?

Actually, I wasn't thinking of strange leaf arrangement or funny forward raked leaflets when I took or posted the photo. I just thought it was a cool shot.

It is not a vine palm, but it is a species of Chamaedorea.

Jody

Chamaedorea elatior?

Chamaedorea elatior?

No, but that is a good guess.

Bought this yesterday for $5! It's around five feet tall and was laying on it's side at the back of a garden centre. Must have been there for some time as the growth is at a right angle to the bag! Looks a little red in the photo but is more of a burgundy colour. Some nice colour in the petioles too. So, what is it?!

Jody

American Oil Palm?

Yep. It is an Attalea cohune flowering with no visible trunk. It produced viable seeds a couple years ago.

Laccospadix australasica?

Good guess but not correct. It's a very common palm.

Howea? My Howea is just now opening a red new leaf...

Yep, thought this was a particularly colourful one. Not sure how unusual this is but I like it!

Ken and Zeeth:

That's what I'm stuck on myself. The fruit was pointy and very bright red when ripe (and almost as big as my thumb). I am leaning toward Adonidia but I'm waiting for the shape of the leaf tips to develop to be sure.

Here is one with the whole palm. It may still be hard to name?

I'll go for Clinostigma sp.hawaiian hybrid
