I let temps get down to just above 25 without giving protection- no visible immideate damage. Colder nights I gave protection in the form of a sheet & lamp. I still don't see any damage. Absolute low was 23

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

Me, too.

About 25 FF.  Two nights, no damage as yet in three fifteen gallon specimens.

Reclinata/Rupicola multi-trunk hybrid planted 2 1/2 years ago. Largest trunk has 1.5’ of clear trunk. Low of 22F with no frost and no overhead protection. Put single light 100W bulb underneath. No damage or any sign of stress.

Update:

Three solid nights of 24.8 FF (-4 C), followed another solid night of 28 FF (-1 C), no damage.

So far.

Two seedlings in yard- one in raised pot about 18" tall and 6 years old showed moderate leaf burn on uppermost leaves only.  Other 3' tall plant in ground near several taller plants showed no damage, even two weeks later.  Got down to 27F at least for 5 hours

I have two of these that I covered with heavy duty garbage bags.  The one closest to my house suffered 20% leaf burn.  Low temp reading of 24.9F taken very near this plant.

The other (20 feet away from my house) suffered 30-40% leaf burn, then the spear pulled out 2 months later.  I noticed this morning it is pushing a new spear.

Two plants, 5' OA height

22f, multiple hours and nights below freezing

50% leaf burn

Fully recovered

If global warming means I can grow Cocos Nucifera, then bring it on....

Twenty plants, 15 gal

19f, many hours and nights below freezing, covered with 1" ice from avocado irrigation.

10% leaf burn

Fully recovered (ice works, I guess)

If global warming means I can grow Cocos Nucifera, then bring it on....
