My Ficus Dammaropsis was in the 27F zone of my property. most of the leaves had some degree of burning on them. The woody part of the trunk did not experience any damage.

Mine looks similar on half the leaves, but don't assume your screwed. Ficus trees can defoliate and still be fine if the wood was not damaged, we will know more in the spring when temps warm up.

  • 5 years later...

One plant uncovered was 1m tall and burnt back at -2C to the ground. Has sprouted back now but only 10cm tall and approaching winter again. Same batch of plants x 4 in higher spots are over my head.

One ficus dammaropsis in ground in a protected location but open to the sky, zero damage at 26f,

However, one potted large FD had frozen water in divits... not frost... ice!... had 90 percent damage on newest leaf... leaf with ice on it... no damage.

Clearly they can take some freezing temps but do better in ground rather than in pots.

The trunks and green buds don't appear damaged.

Made it through a second winter, only had 4 days with morning temps dipping below freezing.

The ones on the protected side of my house are doing fine ... no damage and are about 6 ft tall. They get some shade from my guava and lychee trees.

The one next to my patio, I set up a patio umbrella above it to keep the frost off, had a just little leaf damage to outside edge of one leaf. I think our lowest temp was 27f - 29f ish.
